How To Read The Bible
How to Read the Bible Series
There's a saying that goes like this, "Give a person a fish, feed them for a day. Teach a person to fish, feed them for a lifetime." Church typically excels at giving fish - that is, providing teaching that is helpful to get through the day or week. But those serious in their pursuit of God need to learn how to fish, that is, how to read and interpret scripture on their own so that they can pursue a lifetime of fellowship with God directly through his Word. In this way, a Christian will become better equipped to independently hear from God's Word so that they are not continually dependent on more mature Christians to spoon-feed them the truths of the Gospel.
This series will provide you with the basic tools you need to read, understand and apply scripture to your life and the life of the community. Each week will not only give you specific exegetical and hermeneutical principles, but will examine specific passages from a range of scripture to exemplify the reading techniques being offered. The exegetical and hermeneutical principles being taught will exemplify a Reformed approach to scripture which sees scripture as the infallible and authoritative word of God that gives us the history of redemption, that is, the overarching narrative about God, his creation, and his dealings with the world in and through his people and culminating in the Person of his Son, the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
