What We Believe

We respect the wonderful and insightful stories humans have told over the ages.  Yet we have found that the Bible is the story of all stories.  We treasure all that the Bible tells us about God, ourselves, and this world.  The Apostles' Creed—one of the historic creeds of the church—gives a good "nuts and bolts" summary of this story of all stories.  Most importantly, we believe that this story of all stories is true and has a place for each one of us in it.

We believe in God, the Father almighty,
      creator of heaven and earth.

We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
      who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
      and born of the virgin Mary.
      He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
      was crucified, died, and was buried;
      he descended to hell.
      The third day he rose again from the dead.
      He ascended to heaven
      and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
      From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
      the holy catholic* church,
      the communion of saints,
      the forgiveness of sins,
      the resurrection of the body,
      and the life everlasting. Amen.

* We are using the historical language of this ancient creed.  We are not affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.
